Date Of Birth: December 19, 1919
Date Of Death: November 7, 2009
KENNETH RAY MANERS He was born December 19, 1919 in Indianapolis and died there on November 7, 2009 at the age of 89. He and his large family lived mainly on the Westside of town in the Bridgeport area where he spent his childhood and adolescence. His parents were Maggie Belle (McGinnis) Maners and Walter Maners. At age 15, soon after the death of his mother, he began living with his beloved sister, Ethel, and her family in Mooresville, IN. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sarah Imogene (Keltner) Maners. He spent his last 5 years tenderly caring for her, as Alzheimers began to claim her memories. He was diagnosed with cancer one year ago, but he continued his care of her in every way he could. Ken and Sarah had one child, Barbara, who lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Brent Miller, and Ken is also survived by his grandchildren: Christine Hicks (John), Betsy French (Mark), Mark Hera (Andrea), Megan Miller, and Josh Miller. Ken has one surviving brother, Roy Leon Maners (Wanda) of Danville. Ken grew up during the depression years, and he experienced much which caused him to become a very compassionate and wise man. He is preceded in death by 4 siblings: Ethel Clark, Alma Price, Cecil Stultz, and Ennis Maners. Kenneth joined the Army Air Corps two years before the US entered WWII. During those years he served in Panama, helping to guard the Canal against German U-Boats. When America declared war, Ken was sent to England for the duration. It was hard for him to talk of those times and only recently helped his family to more fully understand the hardships and sorrows our military personnel experienced during that time. When Kenneth returned home, he rediscovered the “prettiest girl in Mooresville” whom he had met before the war, and he married Sarah Imogene on November 1, 1945. He began a long civil service career, retiring from the US Postal Service in 1969. He then began serving his Lord Jesus by volunteering in many different areas to help people in need, especially children and the elderly. He was a mighty prayer warrior who taught his daughter, his son-in-law, his 5 grandchildren, and his 6 great-grandchildren through his total generosity, his strong faith in God, and his loyalty to his beloved wife. He continued to teach right up to his final breath when the Lord gently carried him home. Kenneth will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that his struggles are over and that we will all be with him, as he said, “in the blink of an eye”! We thank God for him A Celebration of his Life will be held at Chapel Rock Christian Church (2020 North Girl School Road) on Thursday, November 12th at 12:30pm, with visitation from 10:30-12:30. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Mooresville Cemetery.
